What is the wedding registry?

This is a question that has been doing the rounds since Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra created a wedding gift registry for their wedding. While everyone is getting curious about the wedding gift registry there is also a group who wants to know the technicalities of a gift registry. How to set it up, what gifts to add, how to share, etc. Here are some Do’s and Don’ts of a wedding registry that needs to be addressed.

Do’s of a gift registry

Add the link to the wedding invitation

A wedding registry is a new concept in India. Most people don’t know about it. In the west, wedding guests would ask the couple if they created a gift registry. But as a country, we are warming up to the wedding gift registry concept only now. So it’s better to add the link to your wedding registry to your wedding invitation and explain what it really is to people.

Share it with everyone possible.

While wedding invitations are the biggest way to share your wedding registry, there are other ways too. Introducing social media to you! :P. Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, name it and it can be shared anywhere.

Keep tweaking the gifts based on what’s getting bought.

In your list of wedding gifts there are some that take priority by default. If your wedding registry starts to get bought and all the less important gifts get bought first then it’s time to start tweaking your gift registry and get all the more important stuff bought frst.

Don’ts of a gift registry

Don’t force your peers to buy you only from the gift registry

There will be a set of guests who will not want to buy you the gifts from the gift registry. What do you do in such a case? Leave it . Don’t force it. A gift registry is for the ones who are clueless of what to get you. And if your guest already has something to give you then you can’t force the gift registry to them.

Don’t add very high-value gifts to your wedding registry

At a wedding, there is always a mix of wedding guests. Some close, some not-so-close and some are just there for the food. The wedding budget in such a case varies from person to person. It is if for this reason, a couple should not add products that are very expensive. A recent couple created a registry that had a mix of furniture, home decor, kitchen appliances, cash gifts, and charity too.

While these are not set and stone regulations that a couple needs to follow it almost like a guide. There are a lot of couples who do things differently.

Wedding Website – Some create a wedding website with their story, events and then follow it up with a wedding registry to not make it seem so obvious.

Wedding video – A recent couple we worked with created a wedding video talking about the registry to educate their guests about it.

Facebook events – Some couples also create a wedding page for the event and add their wedding registry details in that.

Whatsapp groups – A recent bride’s mom created a WhatsApp group to talk about the wedding registry
