How To Check Your Hotel Room For Bed Bugs

Hotel Room For Bed Bugs

When you take a vacation whether it be during summer or winter, the last thing you want to concern yourself with is pests in your hotel room, especially bed bugs. Bed Bugs are expert hiders. They hide in crevices in the mattress, furniture, bed frames and more. They can be very difficult to spot unless you know how and where you should look. Here are a few tips on how and where to search for pests such as bed bugs in your hotel room.

Sheets & Bedding

The first step is to pull back all of the sheets and bedding and search the seams in the mattress, especially the corners. You should look for stains or spots that are dark red or brown. You probably won’t be able to spot bed bugs or eggs with the naked eye, but the stains they leave behind are telltale signs that they were there, or are currently there.

Inspect Furniture

Next, you should thoroughly expect the entire room before unpacking your bags. This includes all furniture in the room: headboard, coaches, chairs, etc. Keep your bags outside of the door or far away from where any bed bugs could possibly be while you inspect. You should look in the similar areas as mentioned above, the seams of sofas and corners.

Adequate Lighting

Having a flashlight either in hand, or on your phone can help you spot and identify bed bugs. The lighting in the hotel room will not be enough to properly inspect the area. As mentioned above, bed bugs can get creative when picking their hiding spots. So you need to know where to look and have adequate lighting to be able to spot them.

Notify Staff

If you do find any bed bugs or signs of bed bugs, you should immediately notify the staff of the hotel. This can be alarming because it might mean more than just your hotel room being infected. Bed bugs can spread and infestate very quickly. They like dark corners and hidden places to lay their eggs. They are also one of the most difficult pests to eradicate.

After You Arrive Home

After you arrive home from your vacation, you should unpack your luggage outside of the house and throw your clothes directly in the washer and dry with high heat. You could be bringing bed bugs home without you noticing, which will then become your problem to handle at home.

If you have a bed bug problem, you should contact a bed bug exterminator immediately.
