Why Do I Need To Recycle My Old TV?

In the US, TV Recycle programs are helping consumers to safely dispose of their old televisions. In essence, it is an electronic media recycling program that helps you to dispose of your old TV in a safe and cost-effective manner. However, in order to ensure that your TV Recycling successfully reduces your electronic waste, there are some important guidelines that you should follow.

The first thing that you need to do is to contact your local TV recycler. There are many TV Recyclers in the US and they are available via phone or Internet. You can find one by either visiting their facility or making a simple phone call. Nowadays, the majority of electronic recyclers accept all major brands of televisions.

Now, once you have chosen a TV Recycler in your area, visit the location and collect your TVs for recycling. Usually, you will be given a bin to keep your old TVs in. However, you will also be given a collection kit in which you need to fill in your information such as serial numbers, model numbers, and other necessary information. Once the TV Recycler receives your information, they will prepare the bin for your TV and then remove any protective coating on it.

You may ask how old your TV is? Most recycling programs take into account the date that your old TV was manufactured. Therefore, if it was manufactured around 1990, it would not be included in their programs. The next step that you need to perform is to unplug your TV from the wall. You should take your TV to a garage or any other place that is out of the way when carrying out this process.

Next, you should open the lid of the bin and take off all the screws of the TV. Also, take off the antenna cable and the power cord. You should leave the old TV on a flat surface so that it can be easily cleaned. When cleaning the TV, make sure that you wear suitable protective gloves.

Last but not least, you should empty the contents of the bin. There is no need to keep the TV intact in a reused state because most of the TV’s components are still working. All you need to do is to dump the old electronic waste into a secure bin that is located in a central area such as a landfill site. This will help prevent your old electronic waste from taking over the earth and polluting it.
